About Us

The West Bowie Post is the brand new source for truly local, community news for the west end of Bowie County. We are happy to be your source for local news covering everything from Avery to Redwater with all of the stories, pictures and “shop local” advertising that you are accustomed to from our combined 40 plus years of newspaper experience.

West Bowie Post owner and publisher Allyson Pebsworth has 15 years of experience in the newspaper industry and brings to her role time spent as a reporter, photographer, page designer and office manager. She holds an MBA from Texas A&M-Texarkana and will use her education and experience in the industry in her new role.

Allyson has been married to her husband, Derrek, for almost 14 years and the two have three children, Isaac, Charlotte and Carter. They live in New Boston and their children attend Malta ISD.

Writer and columnist Kenny Mitchell has a combined 26 plus years in the newspaper industry including nine years at the Dallas Morning News and almost 19 as a journalist and publisher in Bowie County. With the West Bowie Post he returns to his passion of writing the stories of the people and places of Bowie County and the communities that he and his family have called home since 1996. He and his late wife, Patty, raised their children in Avery. He is the father of West Bowie Post owner Allyson Pebsworth and Hollyann Harper and Joshua Mitchell, both of Texarkana.

The West Bowie Post will be published once weekly beginning the first week of June 2026 and will be circulated throughout Bowie County free of charge throughout the month of June. An electronic edition will be available by subscription at a cost of just $30 per year, delivered directly to subscriber’s email.

The West Bowie Post is located at 309 Grizzly, Suite A in DeKalb. Their phone number is 903-314-5433

You can reach them by email. Owner Allyson Pebsworth is at apebsworth@westbowiepost.com and writer Kenny Mitchell is at kenny@westbowiepost.com

At the West Bowie Post, everything we do is local and done so with a focus on being led by Jesus Christ our Lord, and we ask that you pray with us that He leads us in our efforts to bring you a true, local source for community news.
